About Candle Scale
Candle Scale is a small, independent set of free calculators for people who make candles, from first-time hobbyists to sellers pouring batches for markets and online shops.
The tools answer the questions that come up at the pouring table: how much wax a jar needs, how much fragrance oil to add, how much to melt for a batch, and what each candle really costs.
How the calculations work
Every calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or stored. The formulas are shown on each page so you can check them by hand:
- Wax amounts use the water method and a wax-to-water factor, 0.86 by default, which you can change to match your wax.
- Fragrance load can be calculated as a percentage of wax weight or of total weight, the two conventions suppliers use.
- Etsy fees use Etsy's published US seller rates. We review them when Etsy announces changes.
Typical values, such as maximum fragrance loads, come from published supplier and industry sources, cited on each guide. They are averages. Your wax and fragrance supplier's technical data sheets always take priority, and every new candle should be burn-tested before you sell or gift it.
